The Challenge

Move Caltrans towards compliance for the trash total maximum daily load (TMDL) waste allocations in the Ballona Creek and LA River watersheds as directed by the LA Water Board, the State Water Board and Cal EPA

The Solution

Media Solutions created and negotiated an integrated Radio, Outdoor, and Corporate partnership promotion to increase awareness of the “Don’t Trash California” campaign and encourage public to stop littering

Through a partnership with Conoco Phillips gas stations, messaging was placed at times and places where people were:

  • more likely to litter/in the process of littering
  • more receptive to a littering message
  • able to take immediate action (place litter in a trash bin or keep hold of)

Linked to this partnership was a promotion encouraging public to come into a local gas station to get a branded trash bag and in turn would go into the draw to win a new Ford Mustang

The Results

Added value exceeded 48% or $776,000+
Increased key measures on public opinion poll
